GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A million dollars for a house. It’s a lofty price reserved for the bold and the wealthy among us.
It’s also a sector for which demand is growing, says Grand Rapids Realtor John Postma, who specializes in high-end home sales.
“Our problem is that there’s no inventory,” says Postma, a broker with ReMax of Grand Rapids. Postma says he’s had several million dollar closings in recent weeks.
At the end of 2012, the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors reported 10 $1 million dollar-plus homes were sold while 17 offers were still pending. That’s up substantially from 2011, when six deals were closed and six were pending. In 2010, 11 homes sold for more than $1 million.
Last weekend, there were 83 homes listed for more than $1 million on the association’s website, grar.com.
The loftiest price tag for a home in West Michigan — $5.5 million — is on Lake Michigan near Spring Lake.
